Congrats to Taylor Hicks. Wow. I am so happy for him. He was the better choice even though I didn’t care for who was left standing for the title.
The season finale read like Motown:  Al Jarreau, Dionne Warwick & Burt Bacharach, Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, and yes, Prince -wow. At least that’s the performer’s I saw.  I was surprised as hell when I saw Prince come out towards the end of the show. He brought his own back-up singers and walked right off the stage after his performance.Â
I had no plans to watch this show but when I saw Mary J. Blige come out there - I started watching it then. She was singing solo I thought — -till they showed Elliot Yamin singing in the corner. I thought Taylor Hicks and Toni Braxton did a better job of singing together.
Some parts of the show, was not so good:
- The awards handed out by Seacrest for favorite vocalist, favorite impersonation
- The Pluck and Pickler special was silly
- The one hour Fox pre-show, interviewing past Idol contestants (is this the Oscars?) I think not.
Wrapping it up: I enjoyed the show more than I had expected to but then again, I’m pretty sure they are planning to sell the season finale on DVD…so watch out for a copy at your local Wal-Mart. Know one thing: I won’t be buying a copy. However, this was a good show.

Here is a link to American Idol: Seaon 5 Encores.
Do you know if the dvd of season 5’s finale has been released yet?
Thankyou Sue
All they care about is the ratings American Idol gets. Hee,hee.
I like Warwick too Keishon. She’s got a timeless voice. Agree that the show was pretty good. And American Idol must be “officially cool” now for Prince to show up..even though I’m not much of a fan. xina
Hey, I like Dionne Warwick. You missed a good show.
Well, as it was on against Lost - Lost won. I did turn over during commercials a time or two. The one time Dionne Warwick was singing and I thought “yuck!” And I did turn it over for the 10 second announcement that Taylor did indeed win.
Well, as I remember it, she (Braxton) backed up to him and then kind of tried to grab him. He looked a little shocked and lightly pushed her away. The song they were singing, In The Ghetto, doesn’t really inspire man-grabbing..IMO. xina
Toni Braxton did seem kinda off - my sister made a comment that Taylor pushed her off him. Interesting. I must have missed that.
It was a good show overall. I’m glad I watched. Chris would have been my pick, too.
Keishon, I’m glad Taylor won too although I really lost interest after Chris was booted. I still think he should have won, but am glad Taylor won above Katherine.
As for the show, some of it was really dumb and other parts good. Mary J. Blige can sing anything and make it great. She did kind of forget about Elliot standing behind her. He finally started harmonizing a little and then she seemed to remember that he was on stage…a little bit funny I thought.
And what was with Toni Braxton? She seemed a little out of it and couldn’t get her voice out or something. Then she started shimmying up to Taylor and he looked kind of scared and sort of pushed her away. Taylor doesn’t really have a sexy vibe to him at all.
The Pickler Puck thing was stupid. Although, I don’t blame her for screaming when he shoved that live lobster in her face. Then he kept goading her with it like he was in the 4th grade. What a cheap laugh on his part.
Ah well…a pretty good final show…long, but worth watching I suppose….xina
