Fever Dreams by Laura Leone could be best described as a adventure story with a steamy, hot romance. I loved it. You had a bad ass yet sensitive hero paired with a heroine who was straight-laced in public but with the hero, she is able to just be herself.
Book description:
SHE’s RICH, SOPHISTICATED, AND DEDICATED TO THE FAMILY BUSINESS.Â
HE’s RUGGED, SEXY, AND INTO RISKY BUSINESS.Â
THEY’RE AS DIFFERENT AS TWO PEOPLE CAN BE.Â
IT’s A PERFECT MATCH.It would be just her luck to travel to tropical Montedora with the one man — the only man — who’d ever succeeded in seducing her. Barringtons — especially cool, controlled Madeline Barrington — didn’t do such things. Hard-living, fast-loving men like Ransom of the Marino Security Agency did. But Madeline’s father had hired Ransom to protect her. Protect her?! Placing lanky, sinfully sexy Ransom even within arm’s reach was like putting the fox in with the chickens — and sending them together on a business trip to a war-torn dictatorship was madness!
So Madeline set some ground rules: No flirting, no touching… and not one reference to their night together. Ransom made some rules, too… he’d talk about whatever he darn well pleased. Besides, hell would have to freeze over before he went near Madeline Barrington again.
But rules are made to be broken, especially in the sultry heat of the jungle where the first law of survival is love….
The big draw for me to this book is the hero: Ransom. They first meet at a bar in Montedora, whose government is somewhat unstable. Madeline Barrington and Ransom both are there on business. Two strangers attracted to each other.  They have a few drinks which eventually leads to a one night stand. Some readers may not care for how their relationship starts but the author made it work for me. Come morning, Madeline has left, leaving Ransom with no name or address to follow. He’s hurt by her departure and Madeline is glad to escape back home to “normal” life and work, never expecting to see Ransom ever again.
They do meet again and that’s when the sparks really fly. This book was a page turner. One of those books that gives you those warm fuzzies. You just want to curl up in your favorite chair and lock the door. This author can write a good contemporary romance. She has a great ear for dialogue and the plot wasn’t bad either. It’s an adventure/romance if you enjoy those types of stories. The sex is hot, Ransom is hot and the setting is exotic. This book does have it’s flaws but overall, the story was entertaining. My grade: A.
Dennis Lehane's next published novel is a major publishing event.

Oh, I loved this book too! Leone has written some great contemporaries (e.g. Fallen From Grace is also wonderful). Too bad she’s stuck in another genre most of the time. I wish she would write more romance. Look forward to seeing more reviews of your keepers. I might do one or two of these if I ever get some time off from work.

I loved FD, too! Which version you read for this review? The original or the rewritten?

I read the original. Something was kinda off to me with the rewrite. I don’t know. I guess maybe knowing that it was a rewrite made it less enjoyable. I went back to my original copy. Excellent book that every romance reader should read.
