Well, I’m off today and decided to do a quick review of one of my keepers. It’s by Emily Richards, title, Beautiful Lies. I think Ms. Richards is yet another underrated author. Her books are branded by her sharp characterizations and tight plotting. If you like reconciliation books and an Australian setting, check this book out.

The author gives us a saga of two families. It’s a story of a divorced couple who must come together and find their missing son. It’s also a story where a family legacy of the past and it’s impact on the future. The story opens where two best friends find a priceless pearl and one kills the other for it, forever causing generational bad blood between the two families.

Liana Robeson is the great-granddaughter of Tom Robeson, the gentleman whose best friend offed him for the priceless jewel. She later meets and marries, Cullen Llewellyn, whose family tree has Archer Llewellyn on it, the murderer of Tom Robeson. However, despite the generational bad blood, Liana and Cullen try to put their family past behind them to make their marriage work,  but unfortunately, it doesn’t pan out.

Thus when their son, Matthew goes missing, Liana seeks out Cullen’s help. This gives opportunity for reconciliation, at least for Cullen. The action of the plot takes place from San Francisco to Australia. Liana is the owner of the priceless pearl that her great-grandfather had found and there are many out there willing to take ownership of it. The author gives us a great romance with a nice setting and little adventure. Despite the stories flaws, the author strength is in her plotting and characters. I remember I couldn’t put this book down as I love reconciliation stories. This one is well worth reading.
