Former Hyperion publisher, Robert Miller, will be starting a new unnamed imprint at HarperCollins. It’s an imprint that is geared toward “less commercial” type of books. The publisher plans to release 25 books per year to be available in digital and paper formats. The imprint will pay lower advances to its authors and ship books as “nonreturnable items” to bookstores.
We’ll see how well this idea will work out. This seems to be aimed at online audiences, IOW, depending largely on ebook sales. I can’t really see bookstores ordering items that are “nonreturnable.” But what the hell do I know? I’m just a reader.

Hmmm, interesting business-plan…not commercial and not returnable. Unless they have something really spectacular in this line I won’t hold my breath for the traditional side to work, sounds more like it’s suited for ebooks.
