Much preferred this book to the twilight saga which is not putting the series down as i also loved the series. This book reminded me more of "stranger in a strange land" by Robert Heinlein than body snatchers though.

I think this was a really good book. It took me a while to get into it at first though. I wasn't completely interested until Wanda's fight with Kyle. But the last half was good. From one to ten, i'd give it a seven.

I thought that the Host was a wonderful, well-written book by Stephenie Meyer. It took me a while to get into, but once you get past the first fifty pages or so, it starts getting so good. It becomes one of those books you can't put down. I think that this book was just as good, if not better, than the Twilight series. I loved the characters, and the theme of this book. Overall, I really enjoyed this book.

I want to read this book, and can seporate it in my head from Twilight. But Twilight took a while to get into. If i didn't have someone nagging me to keep going, i would have put the book down and left it.
So I'm worried that this book might also be a slow starter.
I'm glad you had a possitive review. I might go buy it afterall :o)

Not that bad of a review! Personaly i loved the book! I'v read it twice already (which never happens) and I am 14 and was a HUGE Twilight fan. But reading this book was a A+. Your review was all in all good except you had a little to much disagreement with the book. Yes it had some bad spots (going to far to get to the main points) but all in all great!

I have read the first 5 chapters and NO I stand alone I guess... I am not enjoying this book at all.. it is nothing like Twilight saga and it takes a lot to finally get into the book and I think im done. I Love Meyers and the way she makes you fall in love with her charecters but, The Host has not hit me yet and I do not have time to read a 600 page book that isn't my type.

Margaret: Love the review, Keishon. I’ve been on the fence about The Host, but now I know which side I’m on. I loved Twilight, but have been disappointed in the two sequels, and will pass on the third unless Bella straightens up. Thanks.

Anna: Wanda wasn’t my favorite character- wayyy to much like Bella, and so darn perfect it was impossible- but I thought Melanie was great!

Completely agree. Melanie had some spunk and a fighting spirit. I am all over the sequel if she writes it. 0-O

I found Twilight to be okay, but unoriginal and a bit too...corny. This is odd coming from a 15-year-old girl (most teenagers loved it) but I read a book a day. Therefore, I've read a lot of really good books, so Twilight was...just okay.

The Host, though...wow. Blew me away. Like the reviewer, I read it back to back...to back to back. I literally read it three times in a row. It was ridiculous. My family thought I was insane, but I loved it. Wanda wasn't my favorite character- wayyy to much like Bella, and so darn perfect it was impossible- but I thought Melanie was great! She reminded me all too much of myself. And Jared? Ahh.....Jared! What else can I say? <333

Yeah, I finished the book a while ago. I think it's great that they all get to be happy. I just hope they make it into a series.

I thought the same thing, Iray, only because the Uncle recognized her almost immediately and if Jared was supposed to be “the love of her life” it was disappointing that he didn’t recognize that her spirit was still there along with Wanderers. He does love her but it just takes him a little bit longer to be convinced along with many of the other human survivors of the resistence. I’m glad you’re enjoying because despite it’s flaws, overall, it’s a good read.

It gripped my interest and I got invested in some of the characters but I absolutely could not stand Jared.

Hey Kelsey. I wasn't all that enamored of Jared either especially when he first sees Melanie. I mean I know that this alien race is reviled but he was the last one to turn a new leaf and what I couldn't quite figure out was why her uncle was the only one who recognized that she was still there and the love of her life did not.

I'm about 2/3 done with the book and I really have enjoyed it so far. I started reading the Twilight series last year since all my friends loved it, and I have decided something which may be an unpopular opinion. Meyer is a good enough writer, but she is actually lacking in the romance category. I get tired of her endless descriptions of Edward as 'glorious' and 'indescribable' in the books, because it seems like she is trying WAY too hard to sell him to the reader. Apparently it works on most teenage fangirl, but I guess I'm a little bit more ...cynical? However most of the plot and suspenseful parts of the Twilight series make for a very good read (the Volturi storylines, the Cullen histories, etc)

Same thing happened with The Host. It gripped my interest and I got invested in some of the characters but I absolutely could not stand Jared. I know he was supposed to be hot but everytime he was mentioned I pictured some abusive hillbilly. His personality was not attractive at all to me. At least the adjectives she used to describe Edward Cullen made him sound like someone the average girl would want to be around.

I started reading the Twilight series last year since all my friends loved it, and I have decided something which may be an unpopular opinion.
Hi Christine -

I thought Meyer did a great job with the flashbacks. She managed to pull me in emotionally. I remember thinking that the plot was weird and I didn't think it would work. Surprisingly, it worked. I look forward to seeing what she has planned for these characters.
