Digital Romance Backlists or Books You Probably Don’t Know About
As some of you already know, I am a big fan of the authors of the 1990’s. So, I am forever trying to find what piece of their backlist they have finally decided to digitize and sell to us. It wasn’t easy. I decided on my own to cull the catalog of Smashwords to locate which romance authors have some of their ebooks available. So, without further ado, here we go!
I was hit with the first surprise when I learned that Alexis Harrington’s entire backlist is available in digital format and DRM-free folks at Smashwords. She writes westerns. Enjoy mail-order brides? Marriage of convenience stories? Check out her books. I’ve only read two titles. I am blanking on one of them but the other one is A Taste of Heaven. I loved it when I first read it years ago. Does it still hold the test of time? Question mark. Note: There are Kindle editions for her books as well. I bought up her backlist like crazy. It’s a risk but I don’t much care.
Remember Laurie Breton? Remember her first book, Black Widow, that was going for a gazillion dollars? Well, it’s available as an ebook now. Breton is noted for her romantic suspense. I’ve never read her but I know readers have enjoyed her books. I did buy this one and plan to read it this year.
Also Roberta Gellis has been silently releasing her historical romances in digital format. Unless you read or sign up for her newsletter, you wouldn’t have known. But if you’re a die-hard Roberta Gellis fan then looking for her backlist is part of your job. Of course, I wish she would digitize her medieval mysteries, starting with A Mortal Bane, A Personal Devil, A Bone of Contention and Chains of Folly. I own them all. In hardcover. All are some good reading.
Diane Farr has a new ebook out right now, Wicked Cool. She used to write historical romances and that one sounds like a paranormal or something. I’ve never read her but I do remember some readers raving about her work.
Contemporary romance writer Michelle Jerott who writes under the pen name of Michele Albert has always made her earlier books available in ebook format.(non-secure, DRM-free). You can even try one for free, Absolute Trouble to see why many of us love her.
Other notable titles to look at: Merline Lovelace, River Rising and Anne Frasier (aka Theresa Weir) has Pale Immortal up and also has Bad Karma at Samhain. Karen Ranney has two titles Tapestry and A Promise of Love and last but not least, Barbara Freethy, Summer Secrets. Enjoy your weekend, guys.

About the author
My name is Keishon and I'm an avid reader of romance, crime fiction and graphic novels. I tend to read all over the map and prefer the older romances from the 90's rather than the new romances of today. I enjoy reading and discussing books and I hope you enjoy your visit here. Some of my favorite authors include but are not limited to Laura Kinsale, Penelope Williamson, Kathleen Eagle, Michael Connelly, Julia Spencer-Fleming and my latest crush is on Nordic crime novelist, Jo Nesbø (start with The Redbreast if interested).

Piracy…Again

Just ran across this article by another author ranting against Piracy. I’m all tapped out, I’m afraid. This isn’t my livelihood after all. But here’s your problem, to quote JD Rhoades,
I don’t think anyone here is going to disagree that piracy is wrong. To me, the unanswered questions are (1) how do you stop it
WHSmithEbooks.Com

Just wanted to do a quick post about WHSmithEbooks.com which is powered by Overdrive, Inc.. It’s a UK site that I browse regularly when I can’t find a digital copy of an ebook in the US ebookstores. And no, I don’t use nor buy Kindle ebooks because I find it akin to throwing my money away. Anyway, what books have I found there?
Paranormal Short Story and Authors Digitizing Their Backlists

Remember Theresa Weir, the romance writer? Who wrote some of my favorite stories like Amazon Lilly, American Dreamer and Cool Shade? She also writes very good suspense under the name of Anne Frasier, too (Play Dead, Sleep Tight, Pale Immortal).

DRM Represents the Ugly Side of Digital Publishing

I’d recently read Gear Diary’s article titled, DRM Rears It’s Ugly Head and It is Ugly which serves to remind us all that as consumers we are cut off at the knees when it comes to dealing with DRM. I’ve run into it myself and from my experience with it, DRM leaves readers feeling shafted.

I am trying to make the effort to post something new everyday or every other day. Just don’t hold me to it if I happen to lapse a bit, ok? Anyway, as I was sitting at my desk, brainstorming for a new topic, I found myself staring at my Sony Reader and saw that it hadn’t been charged in more

I’ve been an avid ebook reader for two years and counting. Previously, I was reading ebooks on my Pocket PC using uBook before I decided to get a dedicated device. Here’s more info about me: I’m an impulsive buyer and own over 700 ebooks. About 400 of those ebooks were bought at Fictionwise which is my preferred etailer
More Big Name Authors Going Digital

Maybe that’s what ebooks need — more big name authors going digital. Danielle Steele has recently decided to go digital. I don’t know how extensive Danielle Steele’s backlist is but 71 titles will be available in ebook this month (Feb 24). You GO girl.

In recent weeks, John Grisham and Tom Clancy also have agreed to

Immortal Protector by Ursula Bauer: Book 1: The Eternity Covenant, published by Samhain and released June 2007. Read an excerpt here. Also, here is the plot summary because I sure as hell am not explaining it:

@Alexis Harrington: Hi Ms. Harrington! I can’t tell you how excited I was to find your digital backlist! And of course I will give your new title a read. I will be on the look-out for it and thanks for the heads up! Will there be an ebook version of it?

Ah, Keishon, I remember you from a long time ago. You were always one of my very favorite readers. I hope you get a chance to read my brand-new-never-seen-before title, Home By Morning. And I hope my backlist is as good as you remember it to be.
