I will dispense with the “graphic novel” feature for now and just spend time discussing one of my favorite genres: romance. So, without further ado - I feel like I have to re-introduce this author to some of you “new” romance readers out there.
Yeah, some of the new authors out there are doing a great job [cough] with writing historical romance fiction but Laura Kinsale is by far the best historical romance writer bar none when it comes to telling stories about rakes, highwaymen and other characters (to me). I understand that the crown must be passed on but still, her stories are still worth a look today.
Sourcebooks have reprinted three of Laura Kinsale’s books sans Fabio on the cover: Midsummer Moon, Prince of Midnight and Seize the Fire [listed as October but they are available now]. All three books are getting a “fresh look” and are being re-introduced to romance readers. I’ll briefly go over my favorite Kinsale titles and I have discussion questions for readers at the end.

“I’ve been asked hundreds if not thousands of times when I see this World coming to an end. It’s interesting that rarely does anyone ask how I see it ending.” Excerpt: END of DAYS.

I’ve been blogging for probably a little more than 3 years. I started with Blogger (very limiting platform) and eventually moved to Wordpress (thanks to Maili) and have relatively enjoyed blogging for the most part. Obviously, blogging is not for everybody. Just look around you. How many links do you have that are broken or haven’t been updated in months? And there are several bloggers who have just abandoned their blogs altogether. [click to continue…]
Heart Sick (2007) by Chelsea Cain opens with a grisly flashback of Gretchen Lowell, hammering nails into the chest of the lead detective of the Beauty Killer Task force. For ten years the task force had been tracking down a serial killer who was leaving 23 bodies across state lines. Only problem was that who they were looking for was a woman - not a man. A fact that the best FBI profiler had missed that ended up almost costing lead detective Archie Sheridan his life.
Heartsick is a good story but it is far from perfect. Damaged cop, Archie Sheridan returns to work after 2 years of recovering from his injuries. He is asked to be lead detective of another task force that is searching for a serial rapist/murderer. When the story opens, 2 girls are dead and one is missing in the city of Portland. Most of the officers from the Beauty Killer Task Force are reconvened to work on the case. Archie is still fragile, surviving on a cocktail of meds to keep up appearances. He still struggles from the aftermath of his capture from a psychopath who infiltrated his task force to get to him. [click to continue…]
My first Patricia Briggs novel was Moon Called (2006), the first book in her urban fantasy series featuring VW mechanic and shape shifter, Mercy Thompson. I went on to read and enjoy her Hurog duology - Dragon Bones and Dragon Blood. What I love about Ms. Briggs’s work is that she is a solid writer who works very hard in making her world of monsters “feel as real as possible.”
Ms. Briggs graciously took the time to answer a few questions from a reader about her new Alpha and Omega series. The first book in her new fantasy series, Cry Wolf, is due out in bookstores July 29. Oh, there’s nothing spoilerish here. Enjoy. [click to continue…]
